I had a request to post a picture of the violin I made, Danny-Axel. This is what I came up with. THE VIOLIN WAS MADE BY ME!!! The necklace is the necklace my boyfriend got me for Christmas, and I LOVE it! It's called Coeur Savage<3
A brief description of why I built this violin. At my high school, to graduate, every senior must do a senior project. This project is to be done outside of class. What we had to do was find something we were interested in, and shadow someone, build something, or be part of something in relation to our intrest. Nomatter what we did though, we HAD to have a mentor that was NOT a teacher from our school, or anyone in our family. Our goal was to learn something new, create a product, and present it using powerpoint or another form that DIDN'T include our product as the presentation unit. Some people shadowed nurses, and brought in items from their experience to demonstrate what they learned. Some shadowed a chef, and learned how to cook new things, and brought their new learnings in to share with their judges, who judged the orel presentation. Now, for those of you who don't personally know me, I am one to suprise people and overdo EVERYTHING. My interest is primaraly art, and performing arts is one of my favs. With a love for music, I close to build my own violin. My band teacher laughed at me because apparently in the past, a student tried to build a drumset... didn't get it done in the three month time limit. Made a bass drum though. Lol. Anyway, I bought the kid straight away, and began a month before our time started, which no, was not against the rule. My mentor was reffered to me by my band teacher. The man, Daniel, is the president of The Colorado Institute of Musical Instrument Technology. He knew my band teacher because apparently he cleaned and took care of the school instruments when they were in need of some help. He also teaches lessons online. When I was at his toolbench working on my violin, he was teaching three students across the United States build a flute. Anyway, to shorten thid LONG story, I spent three months on building it. I finished a month early and had a month to build my portfolio. I did get an A, and I obviously graduated.
INFO ABOUT THE VIOLIN:
1. I bought the kit from Stewart-MacDonald. It came with the body carved and the sides glued onto the bottom; The neck and scroll carved; The tuning pegs, fingerboard, and all other red colored wood pieces carved; strings; purfling; and pieces of wood to carve the pieces for the inside of the violin like the bass bar and such and also an unsat bridge.
2. It took three months to build. I went to the school every Wensday to build with my meantor, and worked on it during my percussion class.
3. It is DYED black. In a spotlight, it glitters purple with purple pearlessence.
